The Goat Boater Facts
“Your questions answered”
- Where are you located?
We are a mobile paddleboard company with launch locations around Lake Wylie. The majority of our excursions & fitness classes launch from Niven’s Creek Landing, however we do launch from our Molokai location, in Tega Cay, as well as a few places farther north such as Lake Wylie Marina. Class locations will be announced at enrollment.
- Do I have to know how to stand up on a board to participate in classes & excursions?
Our Introduction to SUP (stand up paddleboarding) class is designed specifically for individuals who have never been on a board before and who may not be comfortable balancing just yet. We encourage all our fitness enthusiasts to enroll in an Intro to SUP class prior to taking part in any fitness classes or excursions. We’ll get you standing on the board in no time!
- Do I have to have my own board?
Our classes & excursions include your paddleboard, paddle, PFD & whistle. Night paddles include lights as well. You do not need to bring your own board. On that note, if you would like to join a class and BYOB (board that is) you are more than welcome. Class fees are the same whether you use ours or bring your own.
- I can’t swim. Can I still participate?
Due to class sizes, instructors are unable to dedicate 100% to one individual in an effort to make sure they stay above the water. That being said, if you are unable to swim or have difficulty with swimming, all our classes and excursions can be booked as private sessions. Private sessions allow us to be hands on with only you the entire time and gives us the ability to keep you safe. Private sessions passes can be booked online for $100 pp. You can call or email to schedule a time.
- Do you offer refunds?
We do not offer refunds. Should you cancel less than the allotted time frame for each session you’ll be charged the total class fee. The same goes for no shows.
- Can I bring a group of friends for an excursion or class?
We offer group rates for individuals wishing to book group excursions & classes. Please email Megan@GoatBoater for details & pricing.
- Are my kids allowed to stay on the shore during classes?
The Goat Boater assumes no responsibility for others. Should you elect to leave a child alone during classes you are fully responsible for their well-being. It is recommended that you enroll your family members in the class or make other arrangements for the duration of the class.
- What should I wear?
Appropriate water wear for paddleboarding is kind of your call. Stay away from cotton and any fabrics that will hinder you when wet. We recommend investing in a good pair of board shorts to wear over your swimsuit. Rashguards are a great option to avoid uncomfortable situations while moving in a bikini. We do sell NP Rashguards, Board Shorts & other Water Wear. If you’d like to purchase something you see us wearing, let us know and we’ll help you out!
- What all should I bring?
Due to the nature of paddleboarding, we are hindered in the amount of stuff we can carry on the board. It is recommended that you bring a water bottle and towel to leave on shore for use at the end of class. Some individuals like to carry phones for pictures. Should you elect to carry your phone, be sure to have a waterproof case. You and your phone will get wet.
- Will classes still take place in the rain?
On days with inclement weather (i.e. heavy wind, lightning, storms, etc.) classes will be cancelled. Some classes and excursions do still go on with light rain. Should your class or excursion get cancelled you will be rescheduled to another class/excursion date. In the event we are unable to schedule you into another class or excursion a credit will be put on your account.
- What is your late policy?
All classes & excursions begin promptly at their start time. We ask that all participants arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled class or excursion. Should someone show up late a refund will not be issued.
- How do I sign up?
We offer a boutique paddleboard experience at The Goat Boater. Our classes are limited in size and fill up fast. You may visit the schedule tab on our website and follow the prompts to view our schedule and enroll. A credit card is required to hold your spot & will be charged prior to your class or excursion.
- How old do I have to be to take part in a class or to rent a board?
For all classes, excursions and rentals individuals must be 16 years of age or older unless accompanied by an adult. Anyone under the age of 16 must take an Intro to SUP class prior to taking part in any SUP activities with The Goat Boater.
- Do you have bathrooms and changing facilities onsite?
Since we are a mobile company launching from various park locations on the lake we do not have changing facilities or restrooms.
- Are lockers available?
We do not have lockers. Please leave on valuable items behind. You may wish to carry a waterproof case for your phone and keys.
